The City of North Port recognized that the success of any transportation improvement is dependent upon a successful public outreach effort. Therefore, the City will implement a proactive Public Involvement Plan that solicits community input and interaction through various channels throughout the project development process. This effort should result in public awareness of and support for future project(s). This Public Involvement Plan has been developed to actively encourage and facilitate the involvement of federal and state agencies, elected officials, special interest groups, citizen groups, and the general public. Involvement will be achieved through holding public workshops, developing and maintaining a comprehensive mailing list, the project website, encouraging citizens to ask questions and provide comments, media promotion of meetings and project up-dates, and newsletters.

Two public workshops will be held throughout the duration of the project; The Initial Public Workshop and the Alternatives Public Workshop.

The purpose of the Initial Public Workshop is to fully acquaint the public with the objectives and process of the study and receive public input. This Workshop will be conducted as an open forum to facilitate informal communication between the Project Team and the public about local knowledge and / or concerns as related to the proposed transportation improvements. Board mounted exhibits, concept plans, project brochures, and reports will be available for the public to view that will illustrate the study area limits and data. To further enhance the public's understanding of the Study and the need for the transportation improvements, exhibits and displays will be provided at the Workshop. The public will be able to move around the room to view the displays and interact with the Project Team. The Project Team will provide the public with project specific information and receive input from the public in the form of oral questions or comments and written comments, which will be utilized to aid in the decision making process.

The Alternatives Public Workshop will be held following the Initial Public Workshop. The focus of this public workshop will be to present the public with a preliminary ranking / assessment of the proposed corridor improvements based on meeting the present / future traffic demands; engineering analyses; social, economic, environmental and right-of-way impacts; and public input. This Workshop will provide the opportunity for the public to express their views concerning the preliminary ranking / assessment of the proposed roadway improvements in terms of the community’s priorities.

The dates for the public workshops have not yet been determined. When the dates are set they will be advertised and updated information will be posted.
